Elliot took the evening train home, as always. But tonight felt different. The usual announcements were absent, and the train accelerated unnaturally.
He pressed the button to request a stop. Nothing happened. The illuminated screen above the door was completely blank. He turned to an elderly woman nearby. “Why isn’t the train stopping?”
She smiled. “It never does.”
A chill ran through him. He glanced around—the other passengers sat eerily motionless, their expressions unreadable. One man had his eyes closed. Elliot stared. Was he even breathing?
Panic set in. He retrieved his phone. No signal. The world outside blurred into an indistinguishable haze. Then—darkness. The windows and seats behind him had vanished.
The woman was standing now. “You shouldn’t resist,” she murmured.
Elliot strained to remember where he had been before this train, but his memories slipped away.
His reflection in the window stared back at him. The train never stopped.
And neither would he.
